Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) is a debilitating disease, which usually begins in late adulthood. It is characterised by incontinence, difficulty walking, and dementia. The disease relates to excess fluid build up in the brain. Effective treatment requires the efforts of experts who have substantial experience with the disease.

The Department of Neurosurgery at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals of Virginia Commonwealth University, has an extensive NPH service led by Drs Young and Marmarou. Harold Young M.D. is Chairman of the Department; he has more than 30 years experience with the diagnosis and operative treatment of NPH. Anthony Marmarou Ph.D. is Vice-Chairman and Director of Research; he is considered a world authority on fluid dynamics within the brain and spinal cord.
